Dr. Erin Burton
Dr. Erin Burton was born into a large military family as the baby of four siblings, so she traveled the world growing up. She now calls Charleston her home since she moved here in 1996.
She attended the Georgia Institute of Technology for two years, then graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS in Biology. She then attended the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1994. She and her husband Brett have been married since 1997 and opened Long Point Animal Hospital in May of 1999 the same month their first daughter Allison was born. They had their daughter Natalie in 2002, who will be a proud graduate of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2028.
Dr. Erin Burton loves to swim, read, travel, and take naps in her free time! Within the field she has a special love for surgery, geriatrics, and getting to know her clients and their pets!
Dr. Brett Burton
Dr. Brett Burton attended USC Aiken, and graduated with a B.S. in Biology. He attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at UGA and graduated in 1994. He and his wife, Dr. Erin Burton, opened Long Point Animal Hospital in May of 1999. Dr. Brett Burton is a huge hockey and football fan, he enjoys going to the SC Stingrays games and never misses a UGA football game. In his free time he likes to swim, work out, and listen to live music. While he enjoys caring for all of his patients, he has a special love for feline medicine - and cats seem to love him right back!
Joyie Durgin - Veterinary Technician
Joyie was born and raised in Awendaw, SC. She graduated from Wando High School in 2005 and started her career in Veterinary Medicine as kennel help in 2002. She has been working for Long Point Animal Hospital as a Veterinary Technician since 2010! In her free time Joyie enjoys boating, fishing, and any outdoor activities. She has been married since 2012 and loves spending time with her Pit Bull “Suki” and orange cat “Doritos”!
Beth Williams - Veterinary Technician
Beth got started in VetMed in 2004 in Jacksonville, and started as a Veterinary Technician at Long Point Animal Hospital in 2016. She has two beautiful daughters, Logan and Cassidy, who live close by in the Charleston area. She is an avid animal lover and has 6 cats (Dabo, Matthew, Izzy, Susan, Joseph, and Matilda) and 2 dogs (Frances & Tina). In her free time she enjoys reading at the beach, but her favorite thing is to spend time with her grandson Archie!
Hailey Herndon - Veterinary Technician
Hailey is originally from Jamestown and has been a dedicated member of the Long Point Animal Hospital team since 2022. She graduated from Wando High School and has always had a passion for animals! Outside of work, Hailey enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with her animals. She is a proud owner of three dogs and one cat (Polly, Stitch, Enzo, and Crown), who keep her busy and entertained every day!
Jacklyn Saleem - Veterinary Receptionist
Originally from New Jersey and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, Jacklyn attended Summerville High School and Wando High School. Her passion for animals and client care led her to join Long Point Animal Hospital, where she has been proud to serve clients and their pets over the past year.
In her role at the clinic, she enjoys supporting clients and helping ensure every pet receives compassionate, high-quality care. Building lasting relationships with families and contributing to their pets’ well-being is one of the most rewarding aspects of her work.
At home, she shares her life with her two children and their beloved cat, Oscar, who is a cherished member of the family. Outside of work, she enjoys painting and cooking, which allow her to express her creativity and relax.
Kim Genova - Veterinary Receptionist
Originally from New Jersey, Kim has called Mount Pleasant home for the past 30 years. Growing up, she had a beloved Siamese cat and was actually afraid of dogs after being bitten in middle school. It wasn't until she met her future spouse that she discovered just how much joy dogs could bring to her life—and she can't imagine life without them now!
Kim has known the Burton family for over 20 years and has been a valued member of the Long Point Animal Hospital team for nearly four years. She and her husband have two children and currently share their home with two dogs.
In her free time, Kim enjoys reading, crafting, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Fun Fact: While studying abroad in England, Kim jumped out of a perfectly good airplane in 1991!
Natalie Burton - Veterinary Student
Born and raised in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, Natalie is the youngest daughter of the Burton family. As a child, she spent many hours at the clinic, getting to know many of the clients and patients who have become part of the Long Point family.
Natalie attended Clemson University, where she graduated in 2024 with a BS in Animal and Veterinary Sciences. She is currently a rising third-year veterinary student at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and is expected to graduate in 2028.
Natalie has a strong passion for veterinary medicine and especially enjoys surgery and client education. She is committed to helping pet owners better understand their pets' health and values the relationships that form between veterinary teams, clients, and their pets.
Mia (2006-2025)
Our beloved clinic cat Mia was the unofficial boss of Long Point Animal Hospital for many years. Whether she was supervising the front desk, greeting clients in reception, or making her rounds throughout the clinic, she made sure everyone knew who was really running LPAH.
Known for her spirited personality she brought joy to countless clients, staff members, and patients. Though she passed away in 2025, she remains a cherished part of the Long Point family and is deeply missed by all who knew her.
Elvis
Elvis is Mia's son and is Long Point Animal Hospital's resident clinic cat. While he has become a little less skittish with age, he still prefers to admire people from a distance and is happiest when interacting on his own terms.
A cherished member of the LPAH family, Elvis keeps us entertained with his frequent vocal opinions and unique personality. You may spot him around the hospital, but please remember that Elvis is not a social cat and would greatly appreciate if you DO NOT attempt to pet him. Thank you for understanding!
